Sensitive information
We do not seek to collect sensitive personal data (such as health, financial, or government ID information) through this site. Please do not submit sensitive information through site forms or emails related to this website.
How We Use Information

- Respond to messages, ARC requests, giveaway entries, and reader or business inquiries.

Analytics & Embedded Content
Google Analytics (GA4)
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are visited and how long visitors stay). Google may collect or receive information from your browser or device as described in Google’s own policies.
You can learn more about Google’s practices and available opt-out tools in Google’s privacy and help resources. You can also adjust your browser settings, use content blockers, or limit analytics cookies.
Newsletter / Email Service
When you subscribe to the newsletter or a special list, your email address and any optional preferences you provide are processed by our email provider so we can deliver messages and manage unsubscribes. We currently use MailerLite (or a similar email service) for this purpose.
Our email service may record basic analytics such as email opens and link clicks to help us understand what content readers find useful. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also contact us directly to be removed.
Embedded or third-party content
Some pages may include embedded content (for example, book trailers, YouTube videos, or social media posts). Embedded content behaves as if you visited that third-party site directly and may allow those third parties to collect data in line with their own privacy policies.
Advertising, Links & Affiliates
We may link to retailers and platforms (for example, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or other book-related sites) so you can learn more about or purchase our books. Clicking those links may allow those sites to collect data under their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party sites or their practices.
If we use affiliate links (links that may earn us a small commission), we will disclose that near the link or in the relevant post or page.
Data Security, Retention & Transfers
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to our size and the nature of this site to help protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy (or as required by law). Factors include:
- How long you remain subscribed to the newsletter or engaged with our content.
- Legal or contractual obligations that require certain records to be kept.
- The need to resolve disputes or enforce agreements.
International data transfers
This site is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States or other countries that may have different data protection laws than your home country. Where required by law, we will take appropriate steps to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place for such transfers.

Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is currently no universally accepted standard for responding to DNT signals, and our site does not respond to them. You can still use other tools, such as browser settings, privacy extensions, or opt-out links, to manage analytics and cookies.
How to make a request
To exercise your rights or ask a privacy question, email contact@derekfermin.com with the subject line “Privacy Request”. Please describe what you are requesting (for example, access, deletion, or unsubscribe). We may need to verify your identity and will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data through this site, please contact us so we can delete it as appropriate.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our site, services, or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of the page. Continued use of the site after a revised Policy is posted means you accept the updated version.
